چکیده

In the Shannon lecture at 2019 International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), Arikan proposed to employ a one-to-one convolutional transform as pre-coding step before polar transform. The resulting codes of this concatenation are called polarization-adjusted (PAC) . scheme, pair mapper and demapper pre- post- processing devices deployed around memoryless channel, which provides polarized information an outer decoder leading improved error correction performance code. paper, list decoding sequential (including Fano stack decoding) first adapted for use decode PAC codes. Then, reduce complexity PAC/polar codes, we propose (i) adaptive heuristic metric, (ii) tree search constraints backtracking avoid exploration unlikely sub-paths, (iii) strategies consistent with pattern occurrence in These contribute reduction average time from 50% 80%, trading 0.05 0.3 dB degradation within FER = $10^{-3}$ range, respectively, relative not applying corresponding strategies. Additionally, important ingredient efficient computation method intermediate LLRs partial sums is provided. This effective avoids storing or restarting process. Eventually, all three algorithms compared terms performance, complexity, resource requirements.

Sequential Decoding of Convolutional Codes

This article surveys many variants of sequential decoding in literature. Rather than introducing them chronologically, this article first presents the Algorithm A, a general sequential search algorithm. The stack algorithm and the Fano algorithm are then described in details. Next, trellis variants of sequential decoding, including the recently proposed maximum-likelihood sequential decoding al...

List-Decoding Multiplicity Codes

We study the list-decodability of multiplicity codes. These codes, which are based on evaluations of high-degree polynomials and their derivatives, have rate approaching 1 while simultaneously allowing for sublinear-time error-correction. In this paper, we show that multiplicity codes also admit powerful list-decoding and local list-decoding algorithms correcting a large fraction of errors. Sta...

On Optimal Erasure and List Decoding Schemes of Convolutional Codes

A modified Viterbi algorithm with erasures and list-decoding is introduced. This algorithm is shown to yield the optimal decoding rule of Forney with erasures and variable list-size. For the case of decoding with erasures, the optimal algorithm is compared to the simple algorithm of Yamamoto and Itoh. The comparison shows a remarkable similarity in simulated performance, but with a considerably...

List decoding of binary codes

We briefly survey some recent progress on list decoding algorithms for binary codes. The results discussed include: – Algorithms to list decode binary Reed-Muller codes of any order up to the minimum distance, generalizing the classical GoldreichLevin algorithm for RM codes of order 1 (Hadamard codes). These algorithms are “local” and run in time polynomial in the message length. – Construction...

Sequential Decoding of Convolutional Codes for Rayleigh Fading Channels

The performance of sequential decoding of long constraint length convolutional codes is evaluated for Rayleigh fading channels. Sequential decoding is not practical below a certain theoretical signal-to-noise ratio, and these theoretical limits are calculated for a number of modulation methods and code rates. As an example, with BPSK modulation, soft decisions and code rate 1/2, the theoretical...
